Peruvian Quilt Artist at WSU

In my position with Wright State University's Multicultural Center, I recently installed and held a reception for Peruvian quilt artist Flora Zarate at the Student Union Art Gallery. Her work is absolutely gorgeous and is not a common sight for this area. I hope you will make the time to go see her wonderful work. It is up through 10/23/09, with liberal (and free) gallery hours until 10 pm every night (Monday - Sunday). Here's the postcard for the exhibit. Enjoy!

Peace Pieces

I am honored to report that I have been invited to show some of my sculpture in an upcoming international exhibit titled "The Art of Peace." It is described as "an open forum of peace art gathered from all over the world. An interesting perspective on peace will be seen through this international gathering of artists' work." (One of my sculptures, "A Hard Reign," is shown here.)

The exhibit is co-hosted by the Dayton International Peace Museum, Dayton's new non-profit gallery and studio called Missing Peace Art Space, as well as the Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors, which will host a large part of it at their 48 High Street Gallery (about a block from the Missing Peace Art Space) (links below). The exhibit commemorates the 14th anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Peace Accords that resulted in an end to the Bosnia-Herzegovina conflict. Half of any profits or donations from the exhibit will be used to help support the Dayton International Peace Museum and half will go to help the Children of Narva, Estonia.

The exhibit runs October 22 through November 1, 2009, with an opening reception and silent auction at both DSPS and Missing Peace on Thursday, October 22, 5 - 9 pm. These events are free and open to the public. Please come out and support this interesting and important exhibit!

P.S. As a preview - please visit the Missing Peace Art Space through October 12, 2009, currently exhibiting the large, realistic, political paintings of New York master artist Max Ginsburg. This is a powerful exhibition!

Antioch Lives On!

Crowds cheered as keys were passed yesterday (9/4/09) and now it's official - my beloved alma mater Antioch College will survive - through the hard work of the ACCC (Antioch College Continuation Corporation). It was a long, hard fight but I never really doubted the college would prevail. You just can't tell Antiochians they can't do something. The powers that be are projecting for a small first class in Fall of 2011....And now the fun begins.

The Lucky Tree

I found out recently that I received a 1st Place in the Landscape category from the Miamisburg Art Gallery show that opened August 15. Yahoo! The piece that won was a little abstract tree that has won awards for me in the past. People must enjoy looking at it - so I'll post it here again. The show will be up through Saturday, September 5th. Thanks, Miamisburg Art Guild!

Views on View at Synesthesia and Visceral

Since May, 2009, I have been studying painting en plein air with Dayton landscape artist Jean Koeller, and others - learning and enjoying a lot. Jean and her students have been invited to have a show at Synesthesia Gallery in Centerville. It opens Friday, September 11th and runs through October 16; but the Opening Reception is Friday, September 18th, 6 - 9pm. Visceral Gallery, also in Centerville, is also having an opening the same night for their black and white show (called "Color Restrained"). Their reception is 5 - 10 pm. Check them both out if you can! I've added a link to Synesthesia Gallery in the "Links I Like" area on the left.

Out of CADC - for now....

NOTE: I've moved out of The Cannery, for now anyway. My work is changing a lot these days, so I may try it again later. But I still like to go there to visit friends and to see - and buy - new art. Check it out!

It's Show Time!

The invitational exhibit I wrote about earlier - at the Harcum Art Gallery at Wilmington (OH) College - is now up, and running through August 1. It is comprised of artists from the Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors who won 1st place awards in the Fall, 2008 Members Show. I am honored to be in it amongst many established painters. But in this exhibit - I have all sculptures! Check it out if you get a chance; it's a beautiful gallery on a beautiful campus!
